Save a tree, plant a tree – with Savvy

While striving toward becoming greener and more sustainable, as well as tackling the issue of plastic consumption, we also need to think about our paper consumption. Not just as individuals, but also as organisations.

Congresses and conferences (to name a few) are notorious for paper waste, and whilst paper can be recycled, the rate at which we cut down trees is not sustainable and can be invasive and highly damaging to the environment.

Paper is also often burned to get rid of it – which emits CO2 into the atmosphere.

  • 14% of deforestation is caused by the demand for paper goods. This means 4.1 million hectares of forest cut down every year – an area the size of the Netherlands every single year.
  • An average of 230kg of virgin paper is consumed per person every year.
  • 10L of water is used in the production of 1 sheet of A4 paper.

Research suggests that 1 Pine tree (10m tall with an avg. diameter of 30cm) to create 8000 sheets of A4 paper. A conference of 600 participants with folders full of paper can equate to ½ to 1 whole Pine tree.*

THE DIGITAL SOLUTION

Savvy Congress allows for a more sustainable approach to events in terms of paper consumption for years. Our digital solution includes a personal agenda; presentation slides; voting options; note taking capabilities; and a chat room.

Savvy is introducing a ‘ SAVE A TREE, PLANT A TREE’ project where, for every tree ‘saved’ by not consuming paper, we will plant a tree.

If you work with a Savvy Congress solution (online, hybrid or physical) in 2022, we will plant one tree per project!
